Hydroponics is a special kind of plant cultivation where the plants are not placed into earth, but into granulated clay. The essiential advantage of hydroponics lies in its low expenditure of care and attention since regular watering as opposed to soil cultivation is not necessary.
The granulated clay is friendly to plants, does not rot and provides through its capillarity even the smallest roots with sufficient moisture. The plants dispose of a water reservoir from which they can take what they need. The granulated clay passes the moisture from the water supply at the bottom of the pot system via its large surfaces on to the roots.
In addition there are many hollow spaces between the small clay balls through which air can penetrate towards the roots.
The water level inside the hydroponic container is controlled by a water level gauge and the plants withdraw their nutrients very selectively from the liquid fertilizer.
You need to water only every one of three weeks depending upon the size of container and plant.
At the water level gauge you can easily read off when you need to water again.
If the float in the display window is on "Minimum" then water is filled in up to the "Optimum" mark.
In case you are away for a while it may naturally be a little more ("Maximum"). |
